Notice about recent one-day symposium on China in Canada's Parliament

Canadian Coalition for Democracies

On June 10, 2008, the Canadian Coalition for Democracies held a one-day symposium entitled:

The People's Republic of China: Foreign Policy Risks and Opportunities

in the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Canada.

Some of the best China experts spoke that day, covering topics that included the setting of Canadian foreign policy by politically-connected corporations, US foreign policy toward China and Taiwan, China's weakness in any trade war, religious persecution, Beijing's belligerence toward Tibet and Taiwan, Communist Party control of Chinese-language media in the West, the inciting of violence in the West against Falun Gong and Tibetans, the execution of prisoners and religious practitioners for organ harvesting, illegal interference in local affairs by Chinese consulates and embassies, censoring the internet by Beijing, anti-censorship technology that opens the world for Chinese citizens, China's insatiable appetite for resources, China's support for brutal regimes around the world, nuclear and EMP risks posed by China, and the moral challenge of dealing with China.

The excellent papers that were presented that day are now available online.

The papers are presented on CCD's public message forum. If you would like to post public comments, please scroll to the end of the page and 'Post a Followup'.

For those of you who participated in the event or were part of the audience, many thanks from CCD. It was an extraordinay day, and utterly unique in Canada.

Best regards,

Al Gordon
